2017 CALENDAR

Message from the President:

Dear Kanawha Valley Beekeepers Association Members,

Happy New Year!
As beekeepers some of us had a good year and others not so much. But...
with a new year we can renew our dreams and goals. Last year we, as lovers of our honeybees, spread all the
information we could about our bees and their exquisite qualities. This year we need to work a little harder
to do presentations at schools, churches, scouts and 4-H programs. We need to reach the younger generation to
educate them or at least spark their interest.
All of us are still excited, eager and ready to start a challenging new year. Let's grow, learn and expand together.
Thank you for the privilege of working with all of you last year.
Steve May, Frank and Laura Naab, Allen Leadmon, Laura Barno and Joseph Hoskins

Upcoming KVBA Meetings:

NOTICE!!! January's meeting will be held at Mountain State Chistian School 1948 Mountain Lane Culloden, WV 25510. THIS IS A TEMPORARY ARRANGEMENT FOR NOW.

Meetings are currently being held on the 3rd Saturday of the month from 10 am to 12:30pm. This is subject to change due to the availability of the room and/or speakers.

May 20 - Our program presenter will be Gabe Blatt with assistance from Steve May. Both are members of the WV Queen Producers. With many years experience and numerous advanced classes, these two are the gurus of beekeeping. They will be covering cell punch method for queen rearing and preparation of your hive. There is a lot to learn! So come prepared.

July 15 - Our Speaker is Allen Leadmon, another extremely knowledgeable and experienced beekeeper. Another one of our own guru's! Allen will be covering: robbing, mid-summer medication, queen right, alcohol wash, knowing when you are in a dearth and what to feed your bees along with some recipes.

September 16 - We have two speakers for this month. Bill Warner will be covering preparing your bees for winter. When to take off honey or leave it and how much do the bees need to survive the winter? Kelly Runer from the USDA Farm Service Agency will be speaking about the insurance policies involving bee and honey loss. Also, this is the time to form a nominating committee to nominate potential candidates for officer positions which will be elected at the November meeting.

November 18 - Election time. The nominating committee will present its candidates for Officers of the KVBA for the 2018-2020 term. "FRUITS OF OUR LABOR!" Bring any products you have made with honey to share and sample. Naturally, bring different flavors of honey to spread on biscuits. Hopefully this year we all had a good honey crop. This day is to relax, eat, ask questions, share and most of all enjoy chatting with other happy beekeepers, like you.
